LIVE IN MAURITIUS 2007
Xavier-Luc Duval « Australia will have its PR Agent soon »
11 June 2007

Aligned with the other main tourist generating countries, Australia will also have its PR Agent attached to the MTPA. This was announced by the Minister of Tourism, Xavier-Luc Duval, during a meeting with the main Australian Tour Operators selling the Mauritian destination. Following the success of Live in Mauritius 2007, the Minister of Tourism voiced out his wish to buoy up ‘this high potential market for Mauritius’.

«The nomination of a PR Agent in Australia will allow us to vitalize and coordinate our actions in Australia with the notable participation of the ‘Big Four’, who, as we know, is very active in the promotion of Mauritius», declared Xavier-Luc Duval. The nomination of a PR Agent will also be accompanied by major development in air access. The Minister, reacting to a request from the ‘Big Four’, has in fact announced that he envisaged meeting the Managing Director of Air Mauritius to work on a much more ambitious plan for Australia.

During this cordial meeting, to which assisted also the local partners of the ‘Big Four’, the Australians affirmed their solemn conviction in the future of the Mauritian Tourism Industry.. «Australia is a still dormant huge market for Mauritius. There is undeniably high potential as Mauritius possesses all what the Australian travelers’ look for. Our ambition is to optimise the Australian market and this goes inevitably through more flexibility in air access» acknowledged Steve Douglas of Fiesta Holidays.

Katia Generalis (Air Mauritius Holidays) did also follow the same mindset in recalling the success that Tahiti has from Australia. «The Australian market, albeit the Chikungunya crisis has remained faithful to the Mauritian destination. This is proof that the Australian tourist considers Mauritius as one which fits perfectly his needs. Mauritius has a high potential to explore. Tahiti, which is found at approximately same distance from Australia as Mauritius, is an astounding success. However, we have here more added values: an intense cultural mix, a world-class hotel sector and an exceptional hospitality, thus a melting pot to succeed on the Australian market. ».

Solicited by Trevor Fernandes of Wildlife Safari to sustain more the efforts of «Big Four», The Minister Duval declared that his Ministry and the MTPA were ready to inject more money in the promotion of the island, while hoping that «the actions are creative, focused and well considered».

The Minister of Tourism took the occasion to speak on the new strategy for hotels, through the only construction of hotels of 4 to 5 stars. «This is a necessity as the market lies within this range. This will enable us maintain our image of a high class exclusive destination». The Minister did also mention that new regulations pertaining to the environment will be introduced.

The Minister Duval finally anticipated to visit Australia soon – probably once the PR nominated – to contribute to the dynamics of that market which is predicted by the TO’s to have a sustained growth of 25% this year.
